from caterpillar to butterfly : the old made new in Christ
We recently did a butterfly study thanks to my sister in law sending us some caterpillars.
( Thanks Tracy )
The process is so neat to watch and is always a hit and how we try to end our school year.
Watching these ugly, hairy caterpillars slowly move around the jar until they find their final resting spot on top of the container.
Then we wait,
every day the kids run and check on them hanging in their chrysalis.
( wow I sound like a homeschool mom lol)
Then that much anticipated moment comes,
beautiful butterflies are flying around our cage.
We keep them for a few days and then set them free.
Which is always my favorite part.
This year I realized that this beautiful process has so much theology in it it could be a sermon.
How you ask ?
Well what happens when Christ makes you new?
We go from
“17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
The old has passed away; behold, the new has come”
2 CORINTHIANS 5:17
Did you know that after all the advances Science has made
even the smartest Scientist cannot explain what happens inside that cocoon ?
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.”
There is nothing that was not created.
The universe could not have always existed because it had a finite starting point and it is expanding at an ever increasing speed.
Everything that exists, whether visible or not, is being held together by the word of His power and all things hold together in Him so to deny God is deny the effect of the cause and that is the Creator.
As Paul states “For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.
So they are without excuse” (Rom 1:19-20). There can be no excuse for denying God and Him as the Creator which is why only a fool would proclaim that there is no God (Psalm 14:10) for they cannot even prove what they claim, that He does not exist, so then they are without excuse.
to the Unbeliever :
God is God whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.
We all know that life is short and there is a definitive begin and end to our breaths here on Earth.
You have lived your entire life as an enemy of God
doing as you please
never thanking him for what you have
And now the time has come
where you become dust.
What if you are wrong?
And there is a Heaven and Hell?
Its too late.
Whats done is done.
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Shed your ugly caterpillar skin and be made new in CHRIST.
Be set free from the chains of sin
and fly free
much like that butterfly my son Marco got to set free.
To the believer :
May we never lose sight of what God has done for us
as underserving as we are.
“6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7
For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.
10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. ” Romans 5: 6-11
Our lives has been purchased with the blood of Christ.
WE have been set free and now are much like the beautiful butterfly.
May we live lives that reflect that truth every day.
